4.B. ‘Rewriting the Book’ Altered Book Project

In this project, you will get to cut, rip, glue, draw, and paint (strategically) an old hardcovered book in order to influence the content of the story and change the ending. You will author, mainly through visual language, a book that communicates what you have to say to the world about what should be changed. If you are inspired to work on a different theme, check it out with your teacher and be sure to go through the same steps (tour altered book sites, brainstorm, journal, sketch, & plan with thumbnail sketches).

(Time: Planning- 2 hrs./ Creating 3- 3.5 hrs.)

.Don’t worry, this is the longest project in the course. The rest range from between about 2-4 hours. Of course we have to do the most intensely wonderful project first.

Plan Book.

Create It.

This will be a surprising, intriguing, powerful art object that people will want to hold and explore. Congratulations on completing a work of art that stands on its own.

Upload a picture of each of the following:

1. page exploring present reality & 'the problem'
   
2. page exploring reality after you change one thing to make the world a better place
3. page exploring how you make the change from the old to the improved reality (images of you making the change, a sketched or 3-D bridge, magic wand...)
4. page showing thumbnail sketches outlining what you plan to put on each page
5. cover and pages of your book

To do this, save image files by scanning or taking a digital pictures of your work. (Remember to compress your files to 100 KB or less.) Then in the Draft submission section below, click . A browse window will open. Find the file you saved and click . Repeat until all the files are uploaded. Once all 5 files are uploaded click the button.
